Luigi Posted June 27, 2018 Author Posted June 27, 2018 From the Trappist Holy Cross monastery in Virginia. I've added the bold letters. This abbey was down to 10 - or maybe even 9 - monks, so it's good to see that men are entering now. If you know any prayers, you might want to say 'em for these guys. ################################################ Brother Theodore begins his postulancy June 15, 2018 by Fr Joseph 9 Comments Having recently spent three months within the community as an “observer,” Brother Theodore Berezuk (formerly Todd) has returned as a postulant to begin his initial period of formation. He joins Brothers Mark, John, and Richard in their continuing process of discernment and seeking the will of God for their lives. It has been a long time since we have had four in the novitiate and we thank God for their fervent and committed presence among us. This initial period of postulancy lasts a year, after which, God willing, Brother Theodore will receive the habit and begin his two-year novitiate leading up to his profession of first vows. May Saint Theodore intercede for our new brother and all at Holy Cross Abbey.

They received one postulant earlier this year. This is a beautiful group of nuns, not far from where I work. They used to have a chapel so ugly, it was distracting to pray in. But I did so anyhow, b/c they are lovely & they have Adoration. Thankfully, the chapel has been redone. Before (it's completely mind-boggling -- there was a huge glass encasement filled with...plastic yellow...weird...ribbon...things...it was hideous): http://www.opnuns-fh.org/vocations/ AND https://www.cardcow.com/64627/monastery-blessed-sacrament-29575-middlebelt-road-farmington/ What it looks like now: http://www.cgp-architecture.com/blessedsac.htm

Luigi Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 Prince of Peace Benedictine Abbey will celebrate first vows tomorrow, July 6. "Tomorrow at our Mass, 11 a.m., our novice, Brother Saulo, will make his first vows and so become a monk. As traditional, he will receive a new name."
Luigi Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 From the Carmel of St. Joseph in St. Louis, MO: "On June 9, 2018, Sr. Maria Battista of the Lamb of God professed her solemn vows at the Monastery of St. Joseph." They also posted a ten-minute Vimeo. The first three or four minutes are really more like a tour of the monastery grounds. During the procession, you can see Bishop Stika of Knoxville and Justin Cardinal Rigali, but I can't identify the main celebrant. Later in the video, you can see that the community has at least two other nuns in formation.
Jennifer Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 (edited) Thank you for sharing this lovely video.....................Sr. Maria Battista looks so very happy. It is lovely seeing her with all her family. Edited July 7, 2018 by Jennifer correcting spelling
Luigi Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 From Saint Anselm Benedictine Abbey in Manchester, New Hampshire: Brother Aloysius Ryan Sarasin, O.S.B., has professed temporary vows as a monk of Saint Anselm Abbey. On July 7, 2018, Abbot Mark Cooper, O.S.B. presented Brother Aloysius with the full monastic habit and a copy of the Rule of Saint Benedict. Through his temporary profession of vows, Brother Aloysius begins his three-year "Juniorate" phase where he embraces the vows of the Order of St. Benedict: obedience, stability, and conversatio morum (fidelity to monastic life) as cited in chapter 58 of the Rule of Saint Benedict. Upon completing three years after careful prayer and deliberation, he may petition the monastic community to profess solemn vows and become a permanent member of the monastic community. Brother Aloysius(Ryan Sarasin) is from Leominster, Massachusetts. He graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2017 with a degree in Theology and a minor in Philosophy. Brother Aloysius graduated from Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts in 2013. “God works in mysterious ways and I am extremely blessed to be called to the monastic life and this great community of monks,” said Brother Aloysius. “I am extremely thankful for the full support from my confreres, family, friends, students, and the college community. It has made the decision to take vows much easier.” Brother Aloysius will pursue seminary studies this fall and hopes to be ordained to the priesthood.
