Lil Red Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 my bro in law always told me that it's just as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor man...then i went and fell in love with a poor man
Thy Geekdom Come Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005
my bro in law always told me that it's just as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor man...then i went and fell in love with a poor man
Marry a poor man and more often than you would suspect, you become rich. Christ married His infinitely more impoverished Bride...
Lil Red Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 "you become rich" :rotfl: i know you didn't mean to be funny, but that is!!!! my hubby's name is rich.....

Benedict Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 They say money cannot buy love, but it can rent it. I guess I am lucky. Sam actually wants to avoid having a lot money in her marriage. I do too. Rich kids tend to be spoiled. Poverty builds character.

A friend of mine told me to wait until I got out of undergrad studies (as I said above)...he said it would be too difficult. On the contrary, I say that it is the difficulty which guarantees its success. I have enough devotion to crawl to the edge of Hell for my future wife if need be...given that devotion, the greater the challenge in the beginning of marriage, the more refining it is. The trick is to have the strength to make it through. I trust that God will provide it.
homeschoolmom Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 The thing with money is people are never satisfied with it. No matter how much you have, you always seem to want more. Where you decide to plant yourself can effect how happy you are.
Tink Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 wow, I agree with everything in here. I actually think struggling through trials is an excellent way to strengthen a marriage, because it leads you more to depending on Christ alone. I am soooooo going to love getting married.

Including being poor, if that's what God has in store for me.

If that means marrying poor, then let it be the will of God and my will, too. God has a will for every little thing in our lives...
Tink Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Oh, sorry, I meant that in reply to Cmom. Quoted the wrong persom, but I'm in total agreement with what you said!
I think there is a romanticized idea of struggling and being poor. It can bring a couple closer, but it can drive a wedge as well.
spathariossa Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 My father always told me: "Money can't buy happiness but poverty can't buy anything."
Tink Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I understand... trust me I know more couples than I can count who are in financial trouble, but I believe that all is possible through the Lord. And you're right, the idea is romanticized... but at the same time, realistically, trials and heartaches are always strengthening, no matter how painful. I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me!
rachael Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005
Let me know after you have tried being poor for 10 years or so.
so if you go into a marriage financially stable, but somemore in the middle you are in extreme financial trouble for a while, how would you feel about the person then?
Andrea348 Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005
What does he do that's not stable? Is it him, or the job? Why does he want that job? I'd be much more concerned about his character than the money. If he was unable to hold a steady job or succeed, I'd probably not want him. But if he himself was dependable, and the work was actually worth the struggles it would entail, I'd have no qualms about the scenario. Many women would actually enjoy struggling side by side with their husbands. This guy just needs to find a woman who isn't afraid to work and loves teamwork.
I agree very much. I would not have a problem with struggling financially as long as the reason for struggling wasn't laziness. As long as my future husband was hard working and tried the best he could, that would be enough.
