There are some wicked awesome older guys out there who haven't found that certain lady yet. I found mine, hes 8 years older than I am. *shrugs*

... how are parents/friends taking the age difference?

There is a certain fellow about the same age difference from me (I'm 21... he's 8 years older) and my mother, who's practically desperate for me to get married, refuses to let me even consider the possibility of dating him, or as seeing him as anything other than a friend-- a distant friend. lol.

And some of my friends are a bit skeptical of the whole thing as well.

For now, I'm okay with being friends (I'm not sure how ready I am for marriage... lots of college loans to pay off and such), but I am unsure how to approach the entire situation (especially since he is older and more ready to be settled down).

Sorry for the ramble/interruption.. back to the thread!

Back on topic.....

There are also those men (and I'm sure it's true for women as well) who simply have "thrown in the towel".

Maybe it's just a "heartless big city" phenomenon, but often people complain about the lack of good Catholic "spouse material", but end up driving the good potential spouses away by "blowing them off" and rejecting them in favor of pagans. When one looks at what's left, they think to themselves, "I waited this long for THIS - you gotta be kidding me!". And of course, you have the lesbo-feminazi hippos with PMS - some bitter over their own divorces - who criticize good Catholics for seeking marriage in the first place that only adds to the discouragement.

plus for kicks I apply Galations 6:9 to it

Well don't get too discouraged. There are "nice" girls out there.
And it is not just the big city... I live in the middle of nowhere..no kidding.
There is no one here. Good, bad.....but there are a few ugly. And trust me, you wonder why I get crabby.....try getting hit on by a divorced 43 year old father of 3 with whiskey breath and four teeth all of them brown, whose pick up line consists of "yer kinda purdy....I gots me a trailor in the woods."

well that is pretty bad...I have been approached and offered things that I won't repeat, and it really has saddened my heart. After entering into a commitment, living my life for God and seeing the joy and freedom that is born from faith...it's hard to think that girls don't want anything to do with that. Just need to find the diamonds in the rough I suppose.

 give it another ten years or so and both of you will see exactly what I'm talking about!

I guess the reason it hits me hard is that the people who purvey this nonsense are Catholics and I hear this nonsense at Catholic events!

I honestly expect more from my fellow Catholics.

Looking at zealousrap's avatar makes me think we need to start a Phatmass sparring group for anyone who needs to "get it out of their system", so to speak; we can call it a "phight club"!

Yikes....that last remark reminds me of that Star Trek episode "Amok Time" where Spock goes through his "pon phar"...

Eh life goes on with or with or without a mate.
Truth be told, I was not trying to make a "date-line"
I just want to know why religious guys get married before non religious.

I am just trying to feel things out, I am trying to come to terms with whatever God wants for me is ok by me. And slowly, even when I am cranky, I realize that it is not my decision anyway.
I can just imagine Jesus saying to me.."why don't you trust me? Because you worry that I will set a course for you that you won't like? How can I possibly give you anything other than Happiness and true peace? Trust me. "

BTW, to further disprove the hypothesis...
male, 24, dateless wonder, not discerning, etc.

Caveat: I'm a stubborn southern Louisianian who lives below sea level and refuses to move from the Greater New Orleans area, hurricane or no hurricane. :P:

And he no doubt talks funny. :)

I've been married 19 years but when I was 21 I was single. I didn't get married until I was 22. :P:
