salterrae Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 (All I've seen really, so in no particular order) The Scarlet and the Black The Passion of Christ Sister Act Sister Act II Therese Teresa de Jesus Pope John Paul II Mother Teresa Marcelino Pan y Vino Fishers of Men (Does that count? I'm running out of movies.)
Adrestia Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008
My friend who was studying to be a nun would go into convulsions whenever someone complemented Sister Act.
And yet it was a retired sister that recommended Sister Act to me and my mom when I was in elementary school. (and I think you meant "complimented" above)
Mercy me Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Reading the list I think they are all good. I would like to add two more for consideration: Going My Way and Boystown. Sister Act is a lot of fun and has surprised me with its staying power.
djninja2005 Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I think some good Catholic movies would be movies from the production company Grassroots Films, because they have a lot of different films out like Fishers Of Men, Crosscultural, and Youth 2000 New York
missionarybelle Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 The Human Experience (grassroots films) The Scarlet and the Black Molokai (about Father Damien starring David Wenham) Bella The Passion Sister Act I was never very impressed by Bells of St. Mary's, or Inn of the Sixth Happiness for being very Catholic and I never really liked Therese
Innocent Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Journal of a Country Priest.(French film by an atheist director.) A Man For All Seasons. (Sir Paul Scoffield) / A Man For All Seasons. (Charlton Heston) Into Great Silence. John Paul II: The CBS Film The Song of Bernadette. Going My Way. I Confess. A Tale of Wooden Clogs (I haven't yet seen this one, but I'm recomminding it on behalf of a friend who has.) The Passion Of The Christ. Therese.
Veridicus Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 In no particular order... Boondock Saints (classic--"And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.") JPII Romero The Mission (I loved this movie for some reason) Passion of the Christ (I'll forgive Gibson his sedevacantism) ... ...
uppercut55 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 The mission (awsome movie) The Passion Fishers of Men Braveheart (maybe) Rocky! (yo adrian) Into Great silence
salterrae Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 JM + JT
Romero
How could I forget that one? That's a good movie.
DemonSlayer Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 The Mission Brother Son, Sister Moon The Passion of the Christ The Exorcist: The Beginning A Man For All Seasons Francesco (Italian mini-series) X-Men 2 Bless the Child The Rookie Molokai: The Story of Father Damien
The Bus Station Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008
Boondock Saints is another good movie.
I assume most people have already seen this but for those who haven't, be warned this film is ripe with language and violence.
Diary of a Country Priest.(French film by an atheist director.)
Fixed the title I just want to second this opinion, as this is an excellent film that more Catholics need to see! It is a very bleak film but I think that for Catholics, knowing we must suffer in this life, it is a beautiful portrait of Christian endurance in the face of very trying circumstances.
HisChildForever Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 The Passion Ten Commandments I like that animated Moses one, too...
DemonSlayer Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 You mean the new Ten Commandments movie? That one's supposed to be really bad.
Veridicus Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008
I assume most people have already seen this but for those who haven't, be warned this film is ripe with language and violence.
They "certainly illustrate the diversity of the f-word" that's for sure...
