Quite A Dilemma!

It will be a while before I can speak to my spiritual director again because he is on vacation, and I'm a little confused about my vocation. I honestly don't know whether I should look into strictly contemplative orders, or if I should look at active/contemplative orders. It's quite a dilemma. I love the idea of contemplative life because I am great lover of silence. I don't feel comfortable in noisy surroundings. Last night, things in the house were just VERY noisy and I felt irritable because I wanted silence. I've always been a "country" gal, anyway. I never liked big cities or crowded towns. Plus, living in a natural surrounding with trees, flowers, and st…

Vocation As A Lay Person

Hello, I have a question for those who may be much more informed than I am. I am 50 years old. I converted to the faith in 1989 and am grateful that, through it all, Christ never stopped coming for this sheep when I strayed. My question is this: I have long been contemplating the idea of giving all for Him..how does one at my age do this? I wont lie--I had a rough and tumble life but look at some of the greatest saints and take comfort. I know God can hollow out this rough reed so the Holy Spirit can blow through me and make beautiful music (to badly paraphrase C. Houselander's book "The Reed of God") I know there are "donatas" who attach themselves to convents/monaste…

Congratulations! He or she has told you about the desire to enter a seminary, cloister, order or monastery. This is wonderful news. You thank God for this gift to the Church; you make telephone calls to family and friends to announce the news. You find yourself busy with all that this decision entails. Eventually, in the days and weeks that follow you also find yourself pausing over a cup of coffee, lingering over your rosary beads and you find yourself saying …

Numbers of Religious Decreasing Reveals Church's Statistical Yearbook VATICAN CITY, MAY 22, 2006 (Zenit.org).- The number of religious in Africa and Asia has increased, but not enough to offset decreases in other areas of the world. The Vatican press office revealed this as they released the newest edition of the "Statistical Yearbook of the Church," covering the years 1978-2004, prepared by the Central Office of Church Statistics, and published by the Libreria Editrice Vaticana. The press office also announced that in 2004 there were over 55,000 men religious, not including priests, in the world, and more than 767,000 women religious. The number of men relig…

Travel

Hi Everyone I'm thinking of going to France in November, travelling to Lisieux, possibly Nevers and a few other pilgrimage places (not Lourdes, too far away). I'll probably get the Eurostar straight into Paris. Any suggestions for getting around and where to stay? I was thinking of buying an interrail pass. I'm looking to go for about ten days so I don't want anything too ambitious. Oh, and I don't drive.

Hello, I am new to phatmass! I'm glad to be here. I work in Youth Ministry in a Catholic Parish in the Midwest and I am looking for perhaps anyone that might know of some amesome Vocation Videos - both for gals and guys - that I could potentially show to my youth at different times throughout the year to promote vocations. I have checked with my diocese and I have gathered a few - although I would love to have some more! Thanks and God Bless! JubilateDeo
