maybe I should just wear my community's postulant habit
So you won't be joining us then :sadwalk:

Oh well I like your habit, and the movie that pic comes from too. It's called Doubt and if anyone hasn't watched it I recommend it.

Will you be joining us in the Carmelite section?
Triddy has never talked about her charism (as far as I remember), but all I know is that, whatever it is, it will be in Latin. Which is perfectly fine and fitting, as far as I am concerned.

One thing you will have to decide, but not until after your postulancy, is whether you will want to be cloistered or active or semi-cloistered or a hermit. Except for a guest house, we haven't talked much about our apostolate, so if you have something you would LOVE to do, speak up.

I should watch that movie, because she looks just like the Blessed Pauline. I wondered if that was a picture from a movie.

What about my friends AKA chaplains? They don't need much, and they love camping outdoors. Well, my charism could be Carmelite influenced? And I would love to tutor children, and work with pregnant mums who are in trouble and their babies! And my habit could be blue, it's flexible!

Certainly ... but we haven't even started the Ordinary Form/Extraordinary Form discussions. Interesting!

How many chapels can one monastery handle???
So far, we have three for the Sisters (including the main chapel) and one chapel in the guesthouse.

I'm all for Latin. I seriously dislike the Ordinary Form. But, since other members may feel differently, we may need a flexible priest--or more than one priest. I would enjoy learning Latin. They didn't even offer it when I was in school. Obviously they offered it at Berkeley, but by then, I was almost fluent in Spanish, so I kept up with that.

Yes watch it! Maybe on a dark rainy day though, or a day when you want to forget it's summer for a bit.

We will have to talk about men (even priests). As CatherineM so wisely warned us, "When you get men involved they tend to take over." From my own experience, her advice is right on the mark. That will NOT happen in this community. We will be obedient to the bishop and the Pope, and we will have priests for Mass and confession, but we will locate in an area with a flexible (and totally busy) bishop who will leave us alone except when we want him for investitures, etc.

We will find some docile priests. They may have their own community if they want, but it will be completely independent from ours. Perhaps it can be located within driving distance, but not too close. They will NOT be allowed to use the swimming pool, although we will feed them. But, the community will be run BY US and the men will not be allowed to take over. We have ways. (Or at least I do. There is nothing like marriage to teach you not to be intimidated by men.) I know Triddy has a "thing" for seminarians. (I've often wondered if she REALLY has a vocation. LOL There is nothing wrong with that, BTW.)

And, sorry to break it to you, Triddy, but ALL men mean work. Notice that diocesan priests don't take care of themselves, as most single men do. They have housekeepers and all kinds of women wanting to knit them socks. The truth is that most men are high maintenance and priests are often VERY high maintenance.

But, I had in mind an older priest, close to retirement or retired, who no longer cares about power. Young men (namely seminarians) and even somewhat older priests like power. They can't help it--even priests have way too much testosterone. The only priest I know must be close to retirement age, and he is a professor of psychology at Loyola Baltimore. Since all of us so far are at least somewhat nuts (the reason for no psychological testing before entrance), I figure an experienced, but devotedly Catholic (which he DEFINITELY is) clinical psychologist would come in handy. The only problem I can see is that Jesuits are very committed to living in community, so we may need to locate fairly close to a Jesuit community.

So, we will need to talk more about men.

However, Triddy, your suggestion for an apostolate sounds very good, and I suspect others in the community would be attracted to it.

I fully understand about men taking over. I have seen many times. But don't worry. We will put our chaplains in here:

then they can drive to the PPC one a day, and then go back to the RV park for the rest of the day. They will have to find their own food, but that is what vending machine are for. I do have a thing for seminarians...but that is because in my future congregation, the priests are looked upon as the fathers of the church family, and sisters as the mothers...and we work in tandum.

BTW-my community is very preventitive when it comes to men interfearing...so I totally see where ya'all are coming from. Just look a the Ladies Rest Area

Of all the rules that I might possibly break wearing white socks will not be one of them since I'll be barefoot as much as possible. . In fact I'd likely be the cause of someone breaking silence to tell me to put some shoes on!
Personally, I think barefoot is fine, well except maybe in the kitchen or refectory (for hygienic and safety reasons), or if the work you're doing would make going barefoot dangerous. IRL, I am barefoot ALL the time I am in indoors. (Even in winter because I have heated floors.) However, with wood and stone floors, bare feet may get cold in winter. We can have someone design us some "nun slippers" for those of us (like me) who do not believe in wearing footwear (even sandals) inside, but who would have to wear something warm on my feet sometimes if it was cold. (Sister Nurse does not believe in the penance of walking in the snow barefoot--too much work for her). I'd be a natural for the Poor Clares, well, except for their charism and lifestyle and habit. But, other than that, perfect! LOL

As for needing to talk about shoes during Grand Silence, I assume we would develop some hand signals. We will have to decide whether we are silent all day, or just certain times, as well as whether we keep silence during all meals or some meals, etc. Or, if certain cloistered Sisters want more silence, we may have to have a signal like a certain apron or something (or just know who the Sisters are) who want to keep silence all day, and the other Sisters will respect that. We can find ways to respect some Sisters' desire for as much silence as possible, while others speak more often. Even for those who don't normally keep silence during the day, everyone sometimes JUST doesn't feel like talking. That's also the reason for having some hermitages. But, even mostly silent nuns WILL have recreation--at least two hours every day--we need times to get to know each other better. And, because we will also have active Sisters, they can do the types of tasks that leave contemplative nuns plenty of time for prayer, contemplation, and silence.
