ChristinaTherese Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Uhm... Kind of a random thought, but I was thinking about a kind of cool experience I had a little while back. I was sitting with my friends having lunch in the hallway, right down the hall from the school chapel. I looked at the chapel a moment, and I all of a sudden felt this urge to go sit in the chapel to pray. It was really strong, and literally felt like someone was tugging me by the heart down the hall to the chapel. Out of curiosity, has anyone else had a similar experience to this? I most certainly have. Most very certainly.

It was completely random, just one glance at the chapel, and I couldn't do anything but go. It was one of those things where it was painful to ignore... Would you mind sharing?

And I make a detour. It's not a painful of being physically drawn, just the feeling you get when you see a friend at a distance, and you're drawn to them to go say hello and see their face.

That's exactly it! (I didn't explain very well... Sorry.) It was like that feeling of "I don't care what everyone else says, I'm going to go visit Jesus!"

Nothing majorly exciting, just if the Eucharist is nearby and I don't have anything important to do I sometimes feel like I'm being pulled over to pray. Like Domenica_Therese said, not like FP said.

maximillion Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I sometimes found it very hard to leave anywhere there was Adoration and Exposition. My friend and I would 'pop in' for a visit and she would be irritated that once there I could be there for hours. There was something so strong, I literally had to wrench myself away. In the end she refused to come with me on the grounds that once I was there, nothing else existed for me. She was pretty close to the truth.

cartermia Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Before basketball games/practices on Wednesday I would ask my mom to drop me off early and I would go to Adoration for a "few" minutes, or at least what I thought was a few! I actually accidently missed practice one because I said in Adoration for 2 and a half hours!

I actually accidently missed practice one because I said in Adoration for 2 and a half hours! :hehe2: In our Adoration chapel, the late night/early morning shifts usually only have one person (for security, the door can only be opened from the inside at night). Once I was asked to substitute for the hour after mine, so that I had two hours that morning; but then the person who came after her never showed up, so I got three hours instead...I think I talked most of the time. It was fascinating to sit and watch the sun start to come up through the stained glass.
TheresaThoma Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I'm so happy, my fellow housemates/staff/friends have started to chant evening prayer (We pray morning prayer and evening pray and the Divine Mercy Chaplet). Its still very rough but coming along. Also Sister got back to me today about a potential time for me coming to visit! So happy!

A part of that is that I live in community (think Catholic Worker tradition) and oh my it has been an adjustment. I have learned already that living in community forces you to really get to know yourself. It holds a mirror up to yourself, which honestly isn't all that pretty at times. I'm really glad that I am going through this now where I have to stay because I think at times I would be very tempted to leave for all the wrong reasons if I didn't. The other big lesson I have learned is being able to say, "I'm sorry" and really truly mean it. I would definitely recommend doing something like this for those discerning. There are multiple groups out there that offer it. As an added bonus at certain places you can get an AmeriCorps education grant which can be used to pay off student loans. Definite perk for many of us!

I've heard many times that we are specifically created for our vocations. I was thinking... Can one's personality traits and their view on things possibly indicate their vocation, religious or otherwise? I don't really know how to phrase that question, I'm hoping it makes sense...

Definite perk for many of us! I was very close to doing something similar with LAMP in NYC. I got through the application process and was on the way to getting approved for service and then I got accepted to the state university. I prayed that if God wanted one thing or the other, He would make one of them happen faster. I took my admission to the university as a sign to complete my degree. I still think about doing a service year, though, and might consider a medical mission when I graduate and become a Physician Assistant, God-willing. ;)
