What books are you taking on vacation, Tigger???? Are any of them 'Challenge Books' - you can claim a challenge book for double credit....

Well... strangely enough, I also finished Banner in the Sky after 2 years!

(Perhaps it is because Tigger60 and I read it together! We have read books together for a few years.. .find an interesting book ideally with some good dialogue, and read a chapter or so from time to time, alternating paragraphs. Once we got into this one... we didn't want to stop reading it. But it took a while to 'warm' to it. (If you have read it, you will get the joke... it is a book about mountain climbing!)

So, yes, Finished: I Banner in the Sky by James Ramsey Ullman 285 pages.

Books in Progress:

And I am over half way through The Autobiography of a Hunted Priest by Fr. John Gerard (395 pages)

The Autobiography is a 16th century page turner! Just got through reading about ME! (Well, the REAL St. Anne Line, who was one of his spiritual directees -- he calls her "Mistress Line" which would have been appropriate at that time.) He recruited her to be the housekeeper for a 'house for priests' -- when being a priest or sheltering them was a capital crime! She was a remarkable woman, and a great saint... anyway.. enough of this!

I am also about 3/4 of the way through another Stephen White book, The Last Lie. (416 pages)

Story of a Soul, St. Therese, Study Edition (Trans John Clark, OCD, Editor Marc Foley, OCD) (496 pages) -

==> I want to designate this as my Challenge book, replacing the Letters of St. Teresa.

Reason is that I am only having to read selections from The Letters of St. Teresa, but I need to finish the Story of A Soul for a class in September, and I am lagging!!!! I will keep them on the back burner, and maybe, just maybe, can get both done!

Poorly Catechized Convert -- welcome!!!! We can put those on the list for you. Last year, we let people count the major divisions of those books as 'books' - so if you want to designate one of the sections of the Catechism and/or St. Thomas, just let us know. If you select one of those as a 'challenge book' you can get double credit for it as well!!!! (Can be a major incentive to read more....)

Will also add The Two Towers for you.
AND if you will name the Star Wars books, you can get credit for those!!!!

And look what I found: http://momontheside.com/star-wars-reads-day-free-activity-kit

starwarsreadsday.png

I'm gonna put the book count together probably late tonight or tomorrow, so post things today if you want them counted!!!!!

Remember, book Thing goes through September, so be sure you select things you can get done during September! It's ok to have a few books going... and we have learned it helps to have some easy or 'recreational' book as well as the harder ones..... kind of books in every room.

We just want to urge each other to get back into reading!!!!!

Thanks! I think I want to count the Summa and Catechism as one book each. Especially the Summa since I'm reading a lot of it twice -- once in the full summa and then from Peter Kreeft's Summa of the Summa. I'm embarrassed to mention the Star Wars books because it has been so many, but here they are: Rogue Planet, Outbound Flight, Approaching Storm, Attack of the Clones Novel, Republic Commando Hard Contact, Shatterpoint, the Cestus Deception, Republic Commando Triple Zero, Republic Commando True Colors, Medstar Battle Surgeons, Medstar Jedi Healer, Yoda Dark Rendezvous, Labyrinth of Evil, and Revenge of the Sith novel.

I also started Scott Hahn's Consuming the Word. Edited by Poorly Catechized Convert

It was too late to edit my post so I had to do another one.

I started on part three of the Catechism because I read the first two last year. In the Summa I'm on the part about the perfection of God and in the summa of the summa I'm 73 pages in.

And I just finished another psychological thriller, that was 412 pages.... but I don't want to encourage anyone else to read it.   The book was well-written, but it was VERY disturbing in many ways.  Normally I require name and author to get credit, but I am gonna break my own rule this time because I don't want to risk any of the younger or more sheltered phatmassers from running into this one.  As a counselor, sometimes I really do have to read things that are disturbing, and I've heard almost everytying... an dcould see where this one was going... but wow, it was violent and disturbing.   Very accurate, which is part of why it was so unsettling.

So..... if anyone feels I shouldn't count it, let me know... but I am just gonna class it by:

A Psychological Thriller That Shall Remain Unnamed by A. Fine Writer.   412 pages.

And now back to the Autobiography of a Hunted Priest this is the summer for violent reading, I guess.... a little tough to read this one before bed, however....

Well... you can change that, Credo.... you still have about 5 weeks!  :)   And I have been bad about updating the stats, but will try to do that within next 24 hours or so....

The Practice of the Presence of God --Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection   110pgs.  The edition I have has several more appendices but not all of them were of interest to me.  I did read his writings, letters, and conversations...but stopped after that.  The 110pgs I listed are the actual pages I read and not the length of the book.

Do I have to finish all those other appendices to get credit even though I never intended to read them and aren't a part of Brother Lawrence's text?

Welcome back, Tigger!

OK guys, I fell off the posting wagon.  I've been reading, but not posting.  I'll add up the book count later today... and then we can head to the end of the book reading frenzy -- 29 days left!!!!!     :bible: :bible: :bible:

Tigger, you can use the "Control" and spin the mouse to get your print size correct if it is stuck! ;)

Almost done with the initial page count -- very impressive, everyone!!!   Have to finish processing it for Phatmass (needs some reformatting) so hope to have it up by tomorrow....

Corban711 - sorry I didn't answer before.  You are free to just read the relevant text of Bro Lawrence (one of my favorites, BTW); I have put down 110 pages, but I would even give you credit for the full book if you wish.  Unless someone tells me differently if you don't give me a page count, I locate the book on Amazon and grab the first copy of the book if there is more than one edition, and take that as the page count. Very scientific. ;)

LWS... As far as Books of the Bible, unless you give me a specific page count, you get the one in my Bible.   :bible:  Partial pages count as a full page.  :)

(I'd be looking up books like a reference librarian if we hadn't set these rules last summer.... well, actually I DO look them up, and I am grateful when you give me pages.

PoorlyCC:   Don't be embarrassed about the Star Wars Books - last year we had lots of people (including me!) reading Star Trek Novels (I love them!) and not a few childrens' classics... right CarterMia?????

Now this is subject to adjustment -- because I have to be sure all the excel squares are talking to each other properly....

(they lie like RUGS if I let them!)

BUT

Here's the rough count:

TOTAL READERS:  ...................   20

Documented Books Read:  ........ 123

Books in Progress:  ....................  80

Pages read:  ..............................  38,834

It will be interesting to see who is in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place in numbers of books and numbers of pages...

DO YOU THINK...

if we PUSH it...

we could get to 50,000 pages and 150 books by the end of September?????

wanna try ????

Now I am going to go get some sleep!!!!
