TeresaAvila Posted January 4, 2007 Share Posted January 4, 2007 ahh it will grow back and you'll have a beautiful gift to give to our lord when you enter religious life, my hair is very long now, I have been growing it for about 2 years now and I will get it cut before I enter my community (they have us cut our hair at entrance) and I will be donating it to locks of love, actually a tradition I started way back in HS, I'd let my hair grow for about 2-3 years really long and then get it cut and donate it, and perhaps you could do the same with your hair, and next time it won't seem so sad because you'll know it's going to help someone else Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

[/quote] I've done Locks for Love... I cut 10" off about 5 years ago. My roommate did it. (It was the first time my hair was above my shoulders in over 12 years or something.) I'm sure there were some split ends in there. But I did receive a nice "thank you" in the mail from Locks for Love a few weeks after I mailed the hair in. I'm thinking about doing it again, but I need to have a 2" trim. And then I'd still have about 4" to go.... so I'm a little up in the (h)air about it. It was something about them not being completely honest about how they use the hair donated to them, not being ethical in their practices, and not administering their finances in a way one might expect with a charity. There is no guarantee your hair is donated. Ironoically... there is an Oprah commercial on the tv right now where women get their hair cut and donated. (Freaky!) When she called them, she said she had well over a foot of healthy hair she would donate IF they'd talk to her about where the hair was going FIRST. Someone finally told her that unless she was cutting off her hair FOR someone in particular, they couldn't guarantee if or when her hair would be made into a wig. She asked if they sold hair. . ..they only said 'rarely'. Whatever that means. They also said it had to be 'pure' hair, without chemical perms, or dyes. (which is how I know I would be out of the loop, since I have dyed my grey over the past several years.) This is recall, mind you, from last year. Anyone serious about donating there, I could call her and ask, as we no longer work together ( I still have her home #). God bless! Oh, Lauren. . .this was from an earlier post, but I didn't get a response. . .wasn't sure if you saw it. . .when your mom was growing out her grey. ..any tips for how she did it, to avoid the whole grey on top, color on bottom look? Which really is a pity since my hair grows very fast and is of donatable quality, I think... My mum dyed the roots of her hair with non-permanent dye when she was growing it out.
