Also, he used to be an equal opportunity noogie-er. He seems to have stopped doing that now...but maybe I shouldn't have brought it up...

SOMEone is getting a noogie!!

I've been saving up, too!!!

Way to go Mr/soon-to-be-Dr Physicist Sir!

Geometry is a country long long ago and far far away for me, but maybe some ofthe rest of you can do the geom. to figure out the angles & lengths of those triangles.... they might be impt.

I think I can make out a few of the words to the bottom left -- Distance in Light years (LY) obviously... the next line says

[__ __ __ __] [__ __ __ __] only

possibly

[ F L __ ___ ] [ ___ ___ G H ] only

Anyone else make more of it out? I think getting the rest in focus is impt...

I think it is a map... travel plans. I wonder if we don't have some warp speed capabilities on this lil' craft... I think the line with the arrow is our destination line, and the other darker lines are like major freeway intersections (or equivalent in space); possibly loading/unloading points for other uh, cyrotravelers? ; we might even be looking at something referring to a worm hole or some such....

Boy I hate to have to leave now.... but I'm suposed to pray Evening Prayer with someone. Oh, the injustice of it all... real life intruding in our PhatTrek Phun!!!!

Anyone got other ideas?

.... will check back later!

(Thanks, C-Mom for putting a fire under our GM!!!)
I hadn't actually tried deciphering what the line said, but now that I'm looking at it I think it says

Flight Time
_ _ LY
Possibly 20? In terms of current physics that's impossible, but since this is a sci-fi adventure then we can't rule out some type of warp or wormhole technology.

If it really does give a flight time, this will be absolutely necessary for setting the proper time for the cryo chamber during the trip (because let's face it, Kolbe doesn't need help getting any older :hehe: )

I'm a bit hesitant to try figuring out the angles because it's hard for a 2D projection of a 3D line to make very much sense without any slope or depth reference points.

Alrighty then, my recommendation stands, move the table to read the bottom left corner.

If LY stands for "Light Years" as it does in the metric "Distance" just above this, then it can't be a measure of time, can it?

Very true, I interchange them so frequently I forget sometimes. Possibly it's another digit in the number, like 200 Y or something, which makes significantly more sense.

What could those numbers mean?

HD116172 seems to be a star in the Canes Venaticiconstellation. Perhaps that is it?

Of course, there is also a minor planet/asteroid by that number.

Algorab, a star from the Corvus constellation is 87 light years from Earth.

There is an extrasolar planet at 87 light years from Earth, but none of the numbers seem to match.

Incidentally, an articleon astronomy says this:
To put star counts into perspective we need to express them to a common unit of volume. A convenient standard is 10,000 cubic parsecs, the volume occupied by a sphere 87 light years in diameter.

you should bend space-time so that 1925 and 2012 are closer, then just hop over...

or... calibrate the ship so that it doesn't move in space-time, but makes space-time move around it
Lots of good ideas! I agree with Brian -- it's time to move the table to see if we can get the rest of the numbers.

Kolbe, we will be sure that Shea keeps your dinner safe for you.

I appreciate Brian's concern that you not age... but I think that if play with the speed on your return, we could help you get younger if you wish that....

This is so fun... but I'm getting nervous... I will have to be more-or-less off Phatmass Fri - Tues -- that will be horrible, not to know what is happening!

We don't necessarily need him to be there. :|
Maybe if Brian helps him, he can configure a primitive webcam... out of stone knives and bear skins. (Oh, opps... no stone knives, no bear skins.. )

.... configure a webcam out of sammich crumbs and crumpled paper.... (but don't toss the map!)

One other thought... could it be that it takes so long for the GM to get back to us becuase he is in a galaxy far, far away? He claims to be at a bakery... but I wonder where that bakery might be!

Now I had best run and hide! ;)

Tab'le De'Bah-Rye

can move the paper to check the rest of the star chart. It looks like a heap of triangles, so we probably can start with the base of the triangle where at one corner of ,assuming the pointer arrow is us, and 87 light years is the distance between us and the other numbered destination, assuming the other side(not the base) is equal to the 87 light years and with the law of guesstamation it looks pretty close, lol i'm trying to sound like i know what i'm talking about. But anyhow if it is possible maybe the base of that triangle can be figured out but i wouldn't have a clue how to. It may be a start anyhow and something to do for a while till another light bulb. C'mon googie eggs, God iz with you,we need to breath life into the star chart. :)
