skellmeyer Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005
hmm... I don't know. Illegal yes. I know at one time 14 was the min. in the Church to get married. Do I think he should be locked up for 50 years? hell no.
In colonial Mexico, 12 was the age when marriage was permitted. In colonial America, half the population was married before the age of 20. Now, the way today's culture enables and extends childhood is dramatically different than either of the colonial situations, so it's not clear that a comparison between colonial America and modern America is apples to apples. .
White Knight Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Forgive him and Terminate him is the only way to go.
popestpiusx Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I'm somewhat torn on this issue, so I won't post one way or the other.
Carrie Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Hi, umm, can we say pedophilic tendencies? He was 20 and she was 12! 'Nuff said.
Don John of Austria Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005
Hi, umm, can we say pedophilic tendencies? He was 20 and she was 12! Don John of Austria Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Guess that probably makes St. Joseph a pedophile also huh, because while he didn't have sex with Mary he probably intended to when he contracted marriage to her. beaver dam perverts.
homeschoolmom Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 That's just three years older than my daughter (who still plays with dolls, for crying out loud)... If anyone touches her, HSdad would probably kill him.

Carrie Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Don John, while that may have been the norm in the past, it is no longer the norm. Now, it is illegal and considered to be deviant behavior. A grown man having sexual relations with a child under the age of 13 is considered pedophilia. It is also statuatory rape if the girl consented.

It was cultural and not considered deviant behavior then. What I am saying is that in today's time, this kind of behavior is considered deviant (and illegal). In today's time, it is considered statuatory rape and pedophilia.
homeschoolmom Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 (edited) In biblical times a 12 year old was probably completely prepared to run a household and care for children. An adult man could probably see her as good wife material. Today's 12 year old is barely capable of running a can opener. What an adult man sees in her is HIGHLY questionable... edit to add: I'm sorry to sound so negative towards today's 12 year olds... This just makes me sick... Birgitta Noel Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I think that it is important to realise that he is developmentally disabled, or something like that as well ( I don't have time to read the article again, I read it a while back, but I know it mentions something like that) so he also probably lacks the normal capacity a 20 year old would have.....

Well actually a 12 year old girl today is, physically speaking, much much more developed, menarche happens at an earlier time now than ever before in history, girls are developing secondary sexual characteristics earlier as well. I am certianly not arguing that this is or should be normal, but that doesn't mean it's rape. And you don't have to go back to biblical times try the 19th and early 20th century in America. Later in other parts of the world.

Sojourner Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 When I worked in the teen mom's program, we had an 11 year old who had a baby. She kept the little girl and lived with her parents. It was ... scary to see her with the child.
