I talked with someone who is a friend of the guy I sent my application to, and I think I am about as well equipped as I could possibly ask for, in terms of information. She said she would him and I suspect she will give a very positive account of me. Yay!

nice networking, ARFink, and I really loved your thought piece on Page 15.

One other thought.... remember to pray for everyone you encounter as part of your job search, their companies, their families, etc.  Sometimes I think this is the reason why we DON'T get the first job... because God wants us to interact with more people before we end up where we can serve Him best.   He, after all, ultimately is your true Boss.....

So I'm going to share a piece of something I wrote for the guys at Team Orthodoxy which will be published tomorrow. (scheduled to hit the front page in roughly an hour)

the part you put in quotes is awesome. So much better than I'd ever be able to put into words.

Thank you Brian. That little chunk you see there actually came to me on Thursday night, as I was in a discussion with some friends at our young adults group. I hadn't conceived of the notion beforehand, so I guess perhaps the Holy Spirit had a hand in that one.

I got my bicycle out of storage today. When I put it away before winter the chain had been slipping and making horrible noises. I never did fix the chain, because it happened to close to the end of the season. So I just lubed the heck out of everything before storing it in the shed outside for the Minnesota winter.

I guess the lube just needed time to work its way into the chain or something, because when I removed it from storage today everything was working great. All it needed was some air in the tires and a couple nuts and bolts tightened up again.

I'm pretty out of shape after a long Minnesota winter. My legs feel strong enough, but my body isn't used to expending that much energy that quickly anymore. So while I can still push hard enough with my legs, I can't keep it up for as long a time yet. But I don't think it'll take me as long to get back up to my old routine as it took me to establish it in the first place. So that's good. :)

I lost my job on Saturday. So this is actually not an amesome thing. It’s actually kinda sad.

But losing my job taught me something very important: Hope is amesome. And Hope is also not the same thing as optimism. Optimism is thinking that everything will be OK in the end and God will make it all happy and wonderful and that I’ll get a new job in no time and my bills wont be late and the mafia won’t have to come and kidnap me because I didn’t pay the sharks. This is not Hope. Hope is very different.

In fact, Hope is so different that you can still have Hope even when you know you’ll never get a job, and the bills won’t get paid, and the mafia is going to take you away and acquaint you with some very fresh seafood. Sometimes God doesn’t make everything all better. But God will always be there in the end. Even if that means you have to meet your end to get there. Hope means God will make sure everything works out for your eternal good (assuming you allow Him to do so by following His will), even if it means horrible things will happen to you.

Fortunately for me, and for all the rest of humanity, God not only gives us Hope, he very often gives us reason for optimism. And that is also super cool.

So true! Great post! :)

Glad to hear it.

A friend told me something rather profound tonight:

"Working is the most dangerous form of procrastination. This is true because my apartment is always cleanest during finals week. The best way to combat this is to do nothing. Set a time for completing a task. Say you wish to write. Set a time. An hour? Two hours? Whatever you wish. You don't have to write during this time if you don't want to. But you also cannot do anything else. You may not clean other things. Or make phone calls. Or pay the bills. Nothing else. Do this, and the problem will take care of itself."

I really, really, really like this, ARFink.

It is also very similar to the effect of my old friend the FLYLady - set the timer for 15 minutes.  The timer says you can stop when it goes off.

But I would think the two together might be rather magical.... and I am going to try it.... gulp... a little later.

Really, sir, a camera in my bedroom?  have you no shame?

That is so me. And I hear you on procrastinating.  It's amazing the things I'll do to avoid doing certain chores.

Yes.   And the bed part... several times a day.

Yeah it's embarrassing how many times I hit my snooze button.

Posted

Again, yes, several times a day... .and sometimes several pokes of the cell phone are needed... the alarm alone, just doesn't cut it.......

Posted

My family keeps threatening to get me one of those alarm clocks that fly away as soon as the alarm goes off. Although knowing me I'd probably just get up , turn off the alarm, and then go back to bed.

^^ That would be me. Totally.

WE are a scary trinity.  Who is going to strt the poking... or will we all sleep in a huddle like a bunch of sloths?

Oh yeah.....    and now off to my 10:30 appt....

Update time. :)

I had a job interview today at 1PM. It went really well. I held my own, and answered all the questions real well. We had a good conversation too. I think the man who is doing the hiring really likes me, and while he couldn't say I was hired, I am hopeful he is wanting to convince the board to authorize hiring me. It was nerve wracking and very exciting.

A friend helped me dig up some more leads today in case that one doesn't work out.
